Brief Information about Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi, popularly known as the “Place of Many Little Birds,” is located in southwestern Uganda between the districts of Kisoro and Kabale, close to the Rwandan border.
The lake’s depth ranges from 44 meters (144 feet) to 900 meters (2,952 feet), making it the second deepest in Africa. It is one of the few lakes in the area that is said to be bilharzia-free and safe for swimming. Lake Bunyonyi is a body of water located seven kilometers (4.3 miles) west of Kabale Town in southern Uganda. It is 25 kilometers long and 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) wide, with a total area of 61 square kilometers.
Lake Bunyonyi is a haven for numerous little birds, with over 200 distinct bird species documented as habitats. Visitors that take the time to visit Lake Bunyonyi frequently enjoy and experience the stunning beauty of the lake due to the many nature activities that are carried out such as canoeing, boat riding, and local tour, swimming, hiking the hills around the lake, pygmy village tour, and birdwatching.
