The lake’s depth ranges from 44 meters (144 feet) to 900 meters (2,952 feet), making it the second deepest in Africa. It is 25 kilometers long and 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) wide, with a total area of 61 square kilometers.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Bwindi National park

After a leisurely breakfast, the driver will pick you from your Kampala or Entebbe hotel. Then you embark on an eight-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. There will be photo stops throughout the way, including at the equator crossing. Lunch will be at the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara. The drive will be long, but if you enjoy nature and exploring new areas, the landscape will leave you speechless. The western section of Uganda features breathtaking scenery, national parks, mountains, and volcanic relics.

You drive past the lovely lakes and rivers, as well as locals tending to their gardens. While going through the lovely hills of Kabale and Kisoro, keep an eye out for the long-horned Ankole cattle. Check into the lodge upon arrival for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for boat ride

After an early breakfast, you will meet the driving guide and proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on the regulations and standards of gorilla trekking. Following the briefing, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek. Then you will begin the trek in the jungle with an expert park guide. Because gorillas wander about in search of food, gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours.

When the mountain gorillas are found, you are permitted to spend an hour with them in their natural habitat to learn more about their behavior and habits, observe them feeding, breastfeeding, and grooming young ones, snap photos, and record the moments to show people back home after the safari.

Following your encounter with the gentle giants, you will trek back to the park headquarters, where you will be issued a certificate for participation in gorilla trekking, and then drive to Lake Bunyonyi, which will take approximately 2 to 3 hours. Lake Bunyonyi is Uganda’s deepest lake and Africa’s second deepest lake after Lake Tanganyika. Kabale is home to Lake Bunyonyi. Upon arrival, you will go on a nighttime boat trip or canoe ride to explore some of the 29 islands, see different bird species and animals, and enjoy wonderful views of the terraced farmlands and gorgeous scenery, among other things. You will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight after the boat tour.

Meal plan: All meals are included

Day 3: Nature Walks, Swimming, Canoeing and Island Hopping at Lake Bunyonyi then Drive back to Kampala.

This final day you will wake up to spectacular surroundings, a gorgeous sunrise, birds, and breathtaking views of the lake. Enjoy your breakfast outside the lodge, where you can take in the lake views. The landscape alone makes Lake Bunyonyi one of Uganda’s most popular tourist sites. There are numerous activities to select from, such as birding, nature hikes, and cave exploration, mountain biking, visiting local communities, visiting neighboring forests, and viewing primates.

Canoeing, exploring the different islands, and simply relaxing on the lake’s shoreline are the most popular activities. Visit the punishment island if you go canoeing and island hopping. Girls who became pregnant before marriage were abandoned there to die about 80 years ago. Most were quietly rescued by lovers or bachelors who couldn’t afford the bride price. Afterwards drive back to Kampala, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation, bringing this safari to a close.
