You will not only get to see mountain gorillas in the wild, but you will also have the opportunity to visit Kigali, the genocide memorial center, Iby’iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Kinyarwanda culture, drive through the country’s beautiful rolling hills, tea plantations, and beautiful views of the Virunga volcanoes in the distance, and hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb.

Detailed 3 days gorilla hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, city tour, and transfer to Volcanoes national park
You will be picked up from either airport upon your arrival today. Depending on the time, you will take a short city tour of Kigali, including key historic and cultural sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Kigali Craft Markets, Kandt National Museum, and the Presidential Museum. Following this expedition, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park, where you will check in to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’iwacu cultural village visit.
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing with your superb local guides. Begin your Rwanda gorilla trekking safari trip at 8 a.m. The walk in search of the mountain gorillas might take between 1 and 7 hours depending on the location of the Gorillas. The skilled local guides will take you to one of the forest’s ten habituated gorilla groups, where you will get an hour to see and photograph these remarkable creatures as they dine, forage, play, or interact within their natural habitat. Then you return to your accommodation for delicious meal and some downtime.
In the late afternoon, visit Iby’iwacu village, an exact replica village that represents what traditional existence was like for many Rwandans back in the day. You can watch or participate in a variety of activities, including hunting skills, traditional dance and music, traditional architecture, weaving, local beer making, and visiting traditional healers. Return to your lodge later in the evening for relaxation and dinner.

Day 3: Hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb and transfer Back to Kigali for departure flight
Transfer to the park headquarters after an early breakfast for a briefing from the park ranger guides. After that, go on a hike to Dian Fossey’s grave. The hike is hard in spots and takes 3-4 hours, but anyone with basic fitness can complete it. The track is 2900m to 3000m above sea level on average. During the trip, you may see forest pigs, buffalo, elephants, duiker, birds, golden monkeys, and even gorillas, in addition to taking in the beautiful natural splendor of this Rwanda National Park.
Your guide will provide you with an abundance of information about Dian Fossey and her efforts to save the endangered Mountain Gorilla from extinction. Visit the decaying remains of her house and her tomb when you arrive. Her favorite gorilla companion, Digit, is buried nearby, along with 20 other gorillas killed by poachers. Return down the mountain to meet your tour driver guide after this significant event. Begin the amazing drive back to Kigali to conclude the wonderful 3 Days Rwanda safari tour.
