Begin at Nyakalengija trailhead (1,650m). Trek 7km through lush tropical rainforest rich with primates and bird life. Cross the Mubuku River and ascend steadily to Nyabitaba Camp at 2,650m. Distance: 7km, Duration: 5-6 hours, Elevation gain: 1,200m.
Descend to the Kurt Shafer Bridge spanning the dramatic confluence of the Bujuku and Mubuku rivers. Ascend through bamboo forest into the heather and moorland zone. Arrive at John Matte Camp nestled in the Bujuku Valley at 3,505m.
Trek through the mystical Lower and Upper Bigo Bog, surrounded by giant lobelias and groundsels unique to the Rwenzori. Pass stunning Bujuku Lake beneath the towering peaks. Camp at Bujuku at 3,900m.
Pre-dawn start for the summit push. Ascend through rocky terrain to the Stanley Glacier. Use crampons and ropes for the final glacier crossing to Margherita Peak at 5,109m — the third-highest point in Africa. Descend via Scott-Elliot Pass to the stunning twin Kitandara Lakes Camp at 4,027m.
Cross the Freshfield Pass at 4,280m with breathtaking panoramic views of the Rwenzori range. Descend past the historic Bujongolo Rock Shelter, the original base camp of the 1906 Duke of Abruzzi expedition. Continue to Guy Yeoman Camp at 3,505m.
Final day descent from Guy Yeoman Camp through beautiful montane forest, passing through Nyabitaba Camp and continuing down to Nyakalengija gate at 1,650m. Receive your summit certificate. Transfer available to Fort Portal or Kampala.
