3 Days Mahoma Rwenzori Trekking

Climb steadily past Omukakisa camp while looking out for black-and-white colobus monkeys, tree-climbing squirrels, many forest birds and, with luck, the endemic three-horned chameleon. The walk takes 4–5 hours depending on your pace. In the evening your guide gives a short briefing for the next day.

After breakfast, with views of the Portal Peaks across the Bujuku Valley, continue up through the bamboo forest, home to the colourful Rwenzori turaco, and into the heather zone with giant lobelias and everlasting flowers. The trail reaches the shores of Lake Mahoma, a glacial lake and the high point of the trek. The walk takes 5–6 hours. This is elephant country, so watch for footprints. In the evening, explore the lakeshore with your guide.

Follow the Mahoma River down from its source to where it joins the Mubuku River, then descend through the bamboo forest along the Nyabitaba ridge to Nyabitaba Hut on the Central Circuit. After a photo stop, continue down to Mihunga Gate, where your driver meets you for the transfer to your hotel. End of the 3-day Mahoma trek.
