Hiking safari with wildlife game drive takes you to the incredible Mikumi National Park in Southern Tanzania, as well as the Udzungwa Mountains National Park to the southwest of Mikumi National Park. Udzungwa is a natural rainforest with superb views of the canopy of the forest and a variety of monkey species, including the endemic Udzungwa Red Colobus, the amazing Sanje Crested Mangabey, and the Black and White Colobus.

During this excursion, you will participate in activities such as game drives, cultural exploration of Masai people, and a 3-hour round-trip climb to Sanje Waterfall, which gives beautiful views of the surrounding highlands and valleys.

Detailed Itinerary 3days mountain climbing and Mikumi game drive in Tanzania 

Day 1: Transfer from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi for afternoon game drive

3 days Hiking safari and wildlife tour starts with breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and taken on a 6-hour journey to Mikumi National Park via the towns of Chalinze and Morogoro.  Arrive in Mikumi in time for lunch at the resort. After lunch, go on an afternoon wildlife drive in Mikumi, where you can see lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalos, warthogs, monkeys, and a variety of bird species. Enjoy animal viewing until the sunset. You go back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Drive from MiKumi to Udzungwa Mountains for mountain climbing

After breakfast, you embark on a wildlife drive to the Udzungwa Mountains, where you will spend the day trekking. Along the route, you can stop at a Masai Boma to see the Masai and learn about their way of life for 1 or 2 hours, the Masai mamaa will be your guide and describe the entire life of the Maasai people. You will subsequently go to Udzungwa. When you arrive, you will be welcomed by rangers who will guide you on the hiking excursion.

The hiking, trekking, mountain climbing, and woodland walks in Udzungwa Mountains National Park are well renowned. It is also one of the world’s thirty-four biodiversity hotspots.  Udzungwa is home to 11 primates, two of which are unique to the region: the Sanje Mangabey (Cercocebus sanjei) and the Iringa Red Colobus (Procobus gordonorum). The most popular hiking route is up to the Sanje waterfalls. You will hike this route to witness the four tiers of waterfalls while spotting monkeys, bathing in plunge pools, and taking in the breathtaking scenery.

You can also view habituated Sanje Mangabeys, several indigenous plant species, birds, reptiles and amphibians, and butterflies. After your hiking adventure, you will be driven back to Mikumi for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer back to Dar es Salaam

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive back to Dar es Salaam. The return journey will include an exciting game drive to give you another opportunity to see any species you missed the first day. Arrive in Dar es Salaam before dark and be dropped off at your accommodation, bringing this  hiking safari and Mikumi national park tour to a close.
