1
Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport
Airport pick-up and transfer to your guesthouse near Moshi or Arusha
Your driver-guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfers you to your guesthouse for the night. If you have booked your own house near the airport, we simply collect you there the next morning. Over a short briefing we go through the route, the camping set-up and what to pack in the vehicle.
Overnight: guesthouse near Moshi / Arusha (your own booking, or we can add one)  ·  Dinner (own arrangement)
2
Tarangire National Park
Drive to Tarangire (approx. 3 hours), afternoon game drive, first night under canvas
After breakfast we drive west past Arusha to Tarangire National Park, famous for its baobab trees and some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa. A game drive along the Tarangire River brings elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, lion and, with luck, leopard and the rare fringe-eared oryx. We set up camp at Tarangire Public Campsite 1 (the better-equipped of the park's two public sites) while the cook prepares dinner.
Overnight: Tarangire Public Campsite  ·  Breakfast, lunch, dinner
3
Tarangire to Karatu
Morning game drive, then exit the park and camp outside the Ngorongoro gate
An early game drive catches the elephants coming down to the river and the predators still active in the cool morning. We leave Tarangire within the 24-hour entry window, lunch in Mto wa Mbu or Karatu, and camp at a private campsite in Karatu, 20 minutes from the Ngorongoro gate. Sleeping outside the conservation area saves a night of conservation-area and camping fees.
Overnight: campsite in Karatu  ·  Breakfast, lunch, dinner
4
Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti
Crater floor game drive at dawn, then across the Ndutu plains to the Serengeti
We are at the Lodoare gate when it opens and descend the Seneto road into the Ngorongoro Crater for four to five hours on the crater floor: lion, black rhino, elephant, hyena, hippo at the Ngoitokitok pools and flamingos on Lake Magadi. After a picnic lunch we climb out via the Lerai ascent and continue west across the Ndutu short-grass plains to the Serengeti's Naabi Hill gate, game-driving on to the Seronera public campsites.
Overnight: Serengeti public campsite (Seronera)  ·  Breakfast, lunch, dinner
5
Full day in the Serengeti
Morning and afternoon game drives around Seronera
A full day in the central Serengeti. The Seronera valley is the park's year-round wildlife heartland: leopard in the sausage trees along the Seronera River, lion prides on the kopjes, cheetah on the open plains, elephant, giraffe and large herds of zebra and gazelle. Between December and March we can head to the Ndutu area for the wildebeest calving instead; from June to August the migration passes through the western corridor.
Overnight: Serengeti public campsite (Seronera)  ·  Breakfast, lunch, dinner
6
Serengeti to Karatu
Final Serengeti game drive, transit through Ngorongoro, camp in Karatu
An early game drive on the way out, exiting the Serengeti before midday so you are not charged a third day. We transit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area along the crater rim (no second crater descent) with a stop at the viewpoint, and reach Karatu in the late afternoon for a hot shower and a relaxed evening.
Overnight: campsite in Karatu  ·  Breakfast, lunch, dinner
7
Arusha National Park
Drive to Arusha National Park (approx. 3 hours), day visit, overnight near the airport
Arusha National Park is the small, green park between Arusha and the airport: Mount Meru, the Momella lakes with their flamingos, Ngurdoto Crater and forests full of black-and-white colobus monkeys. We spend the afternoon on a game drive (a canoe safari on the Momella lakes can be added) and exit the same day, then continue to your house near the airport or a guesthouse in Usa River or Moshi.
Overnight: house near the airport (your own booking) or guesthouse  ·  Breakfast, lunch
8
Chemka hot springs and departure
Morning swim at Chemka (Kikuletwa) hot springs, transfer to the airport for a 21:00 flight
A relaxed last morning at Chemka hot springs, about an hour from Moshi: a clear turquoise pool under fig trees where you can swim until early afternoon. We return to your house to shower and pack, then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport in good time for an evening departure.
End of safari: drop-off at Kilimanjaro Airport  ·  Breakfast, lunch
