5-Day Mt Kenya Safari Mt Kenya & Samburu Adventure

Depart Nairobi after breakfast and drive north through the lush central highlands to Mt Kenya National Park. Arrive at the Serena Mountain Lodge, nestled in dense montane forest at 2,194 m altitude, overlooking a floodlit waterhole and salt lick. Settle in and enjoy an afternoon guided nature walk through the indigenous forest. Watch elephants, buffalo, and forest wildlife visit the salt lick after dark.

A full day exploring the Mt Kenya ecosystem. Morning guided nature walk through the indigenous forest, spotting black-and-white colobus monkeys, bushbuck, and a rich array of birdlife including sunbirds, turacos, and the Mt Kenya starling. Enjoy spectacular views of Batian peak — the summit of Africa’s second-highest mountain. Afternoon at leisure for optional trout fishing in the mountain streams or relaxation at the lodge.

After breakfast, descend from the highland forests and drive north to the semi-arid Samburu National Reserve. The dramatic change in landscape — from lush montane forest to rugged, dry bushland — is striking. Arrive at your riverside lodge on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River in time for an afternoon game drive. Begin searching for the Samburu Special Five — reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich.

Full day exploring Samburu with morning and afternoon game drives. Track the rare “Special Five” — reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich. Samburu is also renowned for excellent leopard sightings, large elephant herds along the river, and prides of lion. The rugged, semi-arid landscape is unlike any other Kenyan park. Optional visit to a Samburu community village (at extra cost).

After a final early morning game drive in Samburu, depart and drive south through the central highlands back to Nairobi. Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the afternoon for your onward flight.
