Arrival in Arusha
Airport welcome and climb briefing.
Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and takes you to your hotel in Arusha, with an evening briefing for the climb ahead.

Machame Gate (1,800 m) to Machame Camp (3,010 m)
Start the climb through the rainforest.
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate to register, meet your guides, cooks and porters, and begin hiking through the rainforest to Machame Camp.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp (3,750 m)
Out of the forest into the heather zone.
Climb 4–5 hours (about 5 km) out of the montane forest into the heather zone, past giant lobelias, to Shira Camp with wide views of the plateau.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Climb high, sleep low — a key acclimatisation day.
Walk east up a ridge towards the Lava Tower (4,650 m), then descend to Barranco Camp. You end the day at roughly the same altitude you started, which is vital for acclimatisation.

Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp
Scramble up the Barranco Wall.
Descend into the ravine and climb the famous Barranco Wall, then cross alpine desert to Karanga Camp (about 5 km, 4–5 hours).

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,640 m)
Reach high camp before the summit push.
Hike 4–5 hours to the junction with the Mweka trail and up to Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit with views of the summit from many angles.

Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) & Descend to Mweka Camp
Summit Africa’s highest point.
Start after midnight and climb by torchlight up Kibo’s screes for 5–7 hours to Stella Point (5,730 m) on the crater rim, then 1–2 more hours to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Descend to Mweka Camp (3,820 m).

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate & Arusha
Descend through the rainforest and collect your certificate.
Descend about 10 km (3–4 hours) through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m), where you receive your summit certificate, then return to Arusha.

Rest, recover and explore Arusha.
A day to relax and recover, with an optional massage, then a tour of Arusha including the Maasai market and local crafts.

Drive about 2.5 hours to Tarangire National Park for lunch and an afternoon game drive among baobab trees and large elephant herds.
