Gorilla trekking permits cost $700 per person, and the experience of sitting with a gorilla family in their natural habitat is genuinely life-changing. The park also shelters forest elephants, 11 other primate species, and over 350 bird species.
Uganda’s most popular savannah park offers the Big Five (excluding rhinos), plus the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha. The Kazinga Channel boat safari — where hippos, elephants, and buffalo come to drink — is one of East Africa’s best wildlife viewing experiences.
Uganda’s largest park features the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the Nile forces through a 7-metre gap. Game drives reveal lions, giraffes, elephants, and buffalo, while the boat trip to the base of the falls is unforgettable. Chimpanzee tracking is available in the nearby Budongo Forest.
The “Primate Capital of the World” hosts 13 primate species, including habituated chimpanzee communities. Chimp tracking here offers a 95% success rate, and the forest is also home to red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and over 375 bird species.
Uganda’s dry seasons (June-September and December-February) offer the best conditions for gorilla trekking and game drives. However, gorilla trekking is excellent year-round, and the wet season brings fewer tourists and better photography conditions.
